Here, let me put it in terms you'll understand.

Remember how you'd pop down that magnifier over the waist-level finder of a
Rollei twin-lens reflex and it would magnify part of the ground glass to
help you focus but that wouldn't change what field of view actually went on
the film?

Like that, only digital.
