I do believe all your analyses are spot on. The Leica name, logo, and
panache have indeed become status symbols. My answer to the problrm of
equipment failure is as far as possible,  to buy Japanese (probably
produced in China) branded equipment and use my Leica lenses on that
equipment. I agree that Leica lenses give spectacular results- I have not
had a single camera breakdown and my results are teriffic. vroger
