You can set the camera to "live" and it will record eight frames when you take a shot, including some before you actually fire. Then it picks the "best" frame to show you.
However, you can use an app called Lively to pick any other frame, or generate a gif, (with the ability to edit the gif's speed direction of play and size.)
Neat stuff.
