Gerry, each time I hear about what you are going through, I think back
to 1993, when, at age 63 and newly retired, I contracted endocarditis
and had open heart surgery, with two mechanical heart valves installed.
I had to accept a slow recovery, and I had to accept that I could no
longer legally fly an airplane, a passion more addictive than
photography. And, for the rest of my life, I was compelled to take
anticoagulants, which require that my blood INR must be monitored, and
the medication level adjusted.
Twenty-four years later, I have lived the life that I have been dealt,
returned to computers and photography to replace flying, and made the
best of the situation. I'm sure that right now it is overwhelming, but
you will overcome the limitations and make it work. That's what we have
to do! I wish you the best. :-)

I was reassured by meeting a 78 year old gut in the ward who had one of the first devices like mine fitted about 4 years ago and he is fine. I am keeping an eye on everything here, but forgive me if I continue to take a back seat for a while.
