One positive thing about Pence is that he is not a racist. The US is now
basically an equal-opportunity place for gays too, since gay marriage is
now legal everywhere here, and Pence is not happy about it.
Regarding Trump’s border wall, the media is not entirely truthful about
it. To begin, most of the border between the US and Mexico already has a
fence or wall. Second, no one has a right to move to another country
without that country’s permission. Every nation on Earth has and enforces
immigration laws, but for some reason the US is evil for doing what every
other nation has always done.
I’m not against Mexican immigrants. I’m Hispanic. Some of my family came
to the US from Spain in the 1890s. The media won’t tell you this, but most
American-born Hispanics and a good portion of Mexican immigrants who came
legally want to see illegal immigration curtailed. When I lived in New
Mexico, I lived with my people, the Spanish people who founded Santa Fe in
1610. The Anglos there tended to not socialize with us. The Hispanos
(that’s what New Mexico’s old Spanish families call themselves. They claim
to have invented the word “Hispanic” though I am not sure that’s 100%
true) were the most racist people I have ever met regarding Mexicans. They
HATED Mexicans. The old colonial racial system (whites rule, browns do the
work) was still in force there and the concept of Limpieza de Sangre
(blood purity) so strong that most of the old Spanish families were all
closely related do to 400 years of inbreeding to avoid marrying non-white
Hispanics!
The woman I dated out there was from one of Santa Fe’s founding families.
One day, we were at the grocery store when a Mexican guy, talking to his
friend, said in Spanish about my girlfriend: “Look at the fat ass on that
bitch!” She is white, so he probably didn’t think she could understand
him. Oh, she did! She WAS a big woman. Six feet tall and 330lb. I love big
girls, she was hotter than Hell to me. She turned around, grabbed that guy
by the throat and slammed him against the wall and advised him in Spanish
that if he wanted to live a long life, he should get HIS ass back to
Mexico ASAP. He looked like he was going to shit his pants!
Now, most women would be pissed if someone made a rude comment about them
like that, but I am sure her response to it was so violent because she
disliked Mexicans anyway.
A Spanish friend out there, Francisco. had a cellphone ringtone that was
the sound of Mexicans running from the border patrol! He and another
friend of ours, a Pueblo Indian, were laughing hysterically when Francisco
pulled out his phone to play it for me.
My sister’s husband was born in California to Mexican immigrants. He told
me that his father enthusiastically voted for Trump and can’t wait for the
President to build that wall! Crazy, isn’t it?
The media will NEVER tell you what I just told you.
Here in Indiana, on the other hand, there is little racism against
Mexicans. There are small towns here where black people are NOT welcome
that have large numbers of Mexicans who are fully accepted by the white
residents. Indiana is historically one of the most racist places toward
blacks. When I was a little kid, the part of Fort Wayne where I live
(Waynedale) had its own Ku Klux Klan chapter. When I was a teenager, the
biggest KKK group in the country was headquartered in a small town 20
miles north of here! That was 25 yrs ago, not ancient history.
Things are changing for the better, though. Waynedale is now very diverse,
with a lot of black people living here today.
My view on Immigration is that it should be based on the economic needs of
our country. In times of high unemployment, immigration should be slowed,
and in times of labor shortage, the gates should be opened wide.
Ultimately, our government’s responsibility is to its own citizens needs
first. That’s true in any country.
