[Leica] Snapshot Profile mode

I would guess that M9 users on this list have taken +1,000,000 shots since 2009, not aware of anyone having that problem…

It's good to know conclusively that in 'Snapshot Profile mode' the camera only shoots JPEGs. Which, for me, is plent reason to avoid ever accidentally using it!
Nathan says "It seems impossible to do so accidentally since it involves several actions, not just pressing a button." I've just checked and sadly that's not the case.

Here's what happened. I created a user profile ('Bob') and photographed for a couple of hours. At some point, when maybe I changed the ISO setting, the camera exited the user profile (since it no longer conformed to the 'Bob' profile settings). At the time I wasn't aware of this, which wasn't a problem since I was aware of the camera settings.

However, later, when I pressed SET I noticed at the bottom where before it said 'Set user profile... Bob' it now said 'Set user profile... -' (blank). I now realised the camera wasn't using the 'Bob' profile. I highlighted that line and pressed SET to have a look at the profiles menu to maybe re-set the Bob' profile.

This was the danger moment! And a real flaw as far as I'm concerned! By default 'Snapshot Profile' is selected at the top of the list. In that moment I decided I didn't want to set a profile and continue as I'd been doing, and just exit the menu. To exit you have to press the shutter button. But if you accidentally press the SET button (so easy to do!) you're in trouble because now you're in the dreaded 'Snapshot Profile mode'.
Question 2: Is there a risk of accidentally switching on the Snapshot Profile mode? Unfortunately the answer seems to be 'Yes'.
Question 3: Is there a way of making sure the Snapshot Profile mode can't be switched on accidentally? Can it be permanently disabled? I'd love to know, but am not optimistic.

By the way, I think the presentation and explanation of the Snapshot Profile in the M-E manual is appalling bad and unworthy of Leica. I didn't understand what they were on about, which is why I came here for help.
Bob

Just out of curiosity, and to demonstrate the usefulness of looking in the manual, I looked up the M9 manual and there (on p. 103) it is stated that in snapshot mode, quality is set to JPG Fine.

The instruction manual further explains (p. 141) how to set the snapshot mode.
It seems impossible to do so accidentally since it involves several actions, not just pressing a button.

Once again, I maintain that reading the manual would have provided the original poster with the answers he needed.
