Not banned Tina, just charged for properly to take into account the ongoing
problem of discarded ones. In fact, in 2002, Ireland was the pioneer of this
environmental experiment, as we were the first country in the world to
introduce such a measure.

The Government bag levy (15c per bag) helped start a massive decrease in the
usage of plastic bags of over 90% here, encouraging supermarkets to switch
to more sustainable bags. Today, I did a small shop bringing just two
"lifetime" bags to to the supermarket, and would mention that this
particular household hasn't had a plastic bag in it for around thirteen
years.
