I agree that many of the effects are too strong "out of the box."  But you
can adjust the amount of the effect you add. Also, if you like the tonality
of a particular B&W conversion, but not the grain, you can turn the grain
off.  When you select a preset, it sets all the adjustments, but then you
can re-tweak them, and even save your adjusted version as a new preset.

I'm not sure how useful all this will be.  I'm already used to getting
things the way I like them in Capture One. But a useful preset can save a
lot of time. So I want to give the Nik tools a try. I know that many
people, including our Tina, swear by Silver Efex Pro in particular, and I
heard good things about the sharpener app as well.
