[Leica] IR photography with M8 and Elamarit-M 24/2.8

I use various filters from 690 to 900. All work, but the exposures through the (cheap) 900 are too long and don't offer anything pictorially that the 760's don't, as far as I'm concerned. I have 55mm for my Tri-Elmar and the 21/2.8 and a couple of 39mm filters for the 90 macro and others. One is the Leica IR, which is about 690 cutoff and results in pinkish monochromatic images which I then massage. The darker ones result in nearly B&W images.

Different lenses need different offsets for focussing IR. The 75 AA needs closer to f/2.8 while other lenses need closer to 4-5,6 and even a couple behave best with f/8, but the latter are generally rather soft with IR. Experimentation is necessary, but this is a lot cheaper and easier than it used to be with Kodak HIE.

The B+W 093 appears to result in good images from what I’ve seen online, but its specifications seem to indicate that it admits only wavelengths longer than where the M8’s filter starts to be really effective. OTOH, the 092 filter appears to pass a good deal of visible red, not what I’m after.

For some reason, the answer to this seemingly simple question has been astoundingly difficult to find by googling.
