I used cheap 720nm filters from China with good results. EBay is the way to find sources.
Set camera to ISO640, let the built in meter do the work of metering. You will be able to hand hold your camera.
Remember that there is a focus shift. If I remember correctly, it is about f5.6 on your lens that you use for the focus...
Focus normally. Take camera from eye, note focus setting distance. Reset the focus to the near focus set point of your f5.6 DOF setting of your lens. Push shutter button.

This setup worked well for me.

I think for the purposes of experimentation, more expensive filters are not indicated. If you like the results, and wish to try a $150 filter, your experiment only cost you $10.

Btw, 39mm filters are nit (were not??) available. Leica made one, but they are hard to find

I’ve seen numerous images recently on the forum done with the M8 and an IR filter, but the search function in the archives is down at the moment, so I’d like to ask two things:

1. What filter is recommended? The B+W 093 appears to result in good images from what I’ve seen online, but its specifications seem to indicate that it admits only wavelengths longer than where the M8’s filter starts to be really effective. OTOH, the 092 filter appears to pass a good deal of visible red, not what I’m after.

2. My Elmarit-M 24/2.8 takes E55 filters. B&H lists nothing in E55 except a few Leica UVA/IR blocking filters, obviously the opposite of what I’m after. Will this lens take standard 55mm filters? For some reason, the answer to this seemingly simple question has been astoundingly difficult to find by googling.

Thanks for any advice,
