Doug and I have had some off list discussions on how the auto aperture
function works on a R lens.

 

It is not, as I proposed, a linear movement.. Away from and towards the
body.

It is a radial movement like a Nikon lens...  and therefore the "triviality"
of designing an electronic to mechanical actuator is increased..
