[Leica] IMG: Oil Lamps

Hi Gerry,

When I was growing up on a Mississippi farm in the 1930s, we spoke a
Southern drawl that was not even recognized by our Yankee visitors, much
less folks from your side of the"pond". It was so bad that when my late
wife, born in Wisconsin, was in the fourth grade, she had to serve as
"interpreter" between her teacher and children of the Yankee engineers
who built a munitions plant in our area (1942).

I gave that paragraph as background, because, on the farm, aside from a
wood-burning fireplace, the only light we had was from oil lamps, though
not those that you pictured. We referred to those as lanterns. Our
"oil lamps" were of this type. This one is a mantle decoration most of
the time, but has been used during electrical outages.

Not picking on you, just trying to spread the light. :-)
