This is a great picture-within-a-picture composition. Great travelogue in one shot, and it’s a wonderful anniversary picture.

I’m a little torn about the classic cars in Cuba. Being in Detroit, I’m a little desensitized to the appearance (out of nowhere) of perfectly maintained antiques. And by the time I get to Cuba, I’m sure all of these will be replaced with more utilitarian rides - because when trade opens, American collectors are going to snap all of them up for prices that are huge multiples of annual incomes in Cuba but small potatoes for one of these cars in good condition (assuming, of course, that the bodies are not all Bondo by now). If not that, then places like the Henry Ford Museum - a place that was well-funded enough to outbid the Smithsonian for the Rosa Parks bus and that has a massive collection of antique vehicles (GM, Ford and Chrysler may get in the game as well, since all of them curate their own big collections).

The consolation, I guess, is that if private collectors get to them, a lot of these old Chevys and Cadillacs and DeSotos will all end up back in Michigan where they were born, one week each summer, for the annual Dream Cruise.
