Thank you for your comments, Gene.I appreciate your taking the time to share your impressions of the camera and lens. Something must have skewered my impression. Perhaps the overall lightness of the camerathat threw me off. It wasn't a dislike. I liked the camera very much.
The quality of the images (i.e. the Leica lens) and the camera's light weight make it very appealing to me.
I especially like the camera's ability to go from 28mm to 35 or 50mm. I tend to put a lens on a camera and stick with itfor long periods of time. I hate dragging around extra weight and although Leica lenses are relatively light compared to themonster SLR Objektive, they do weigh something.
I also like the Qs relative compactness, perfect for having in my briefcase (in meiner Mappe). In Berlin, I have a city bike. It is heavyand at least once a day, I have to carry it up the stairs from a subway. A Canon 5D with an L lens adds a noticeable amount of weight, and a Leica 9 isn't as light as I'd like.

 Hi Doug,

I also had the chance to check out the new Q at the Wash DC store.  However, I thought the lens was every bit as well made as other lenses of its type, and the AF seemed very fast when I put it to the test.  I took some test shots, but my laptop does not have a new enough PS Elements to read the files.  Will have to wait until I get home to process them.  The Q seems to be very well designed, and should be a hit.  I am thinking very seriously about getting one, after we get moved to Texas.

Subject: [Leica] Leica Q in Berlin

I was able to get downtown West-Berlin today (To me Berlin is still a story of two cities) and try the new Leica Q.
I had thought from the first report abut the Q that it is a winner. After holding it in my hands, taking several photos with it, I continue to feel the same way about it.
I like that it is a dedicated lens, but that it has three options just as the Tri-elmar does.
On the negative side, I thought the lens seemed flimsier than I expected while being lighter than I would have imagined.
Autofocus seemed slower than I would like.
Too bad it does 't do double exposures like the fuji does. Menus remain intuitive and easy to use. Canon could learn from this, but that would mean breaking decades long bad habits for them and other camera makers like them.
I'd buy this camera, but not before it's been out a while and the buys get worked out.
Cheers--Doug
