[Leica] A Cadillac Covered in Pennies

In the U.S., coins are not currency, they are actual money, or assets.  Bills are IOU notes from the government.

On a bank deposit slip, there are two lines after the line for checks; cash and currency.

You often see coins in jewelry and other non money places here.
