[Leica] Viewfinder problem

Are you wearing glasses? Do you have to wear glasses when looking through the viewfinder? If the answer is yes, one solution to seeing the frame lines easily is to take of your glasses, but if necessary, buy and screw in a Leica diopter correction lens into the viewfinder opening.

Two problems: 1. Taking your glasses on and off is a pain. When I was using an M6, I had a neck cord on the ears so I could just taken the off end let them hang. 2. Leica wanted (fifteen or twenty years go) almost $100 for that correction lens.

When I burned out on darkroom work, mostly color printing, I quit photography for a couple of years, after which I managed to lose my darkroom because my wife insisted we replace it with a second bathroom. Several years passed before I broke down and bought an M9. By that time, I had forgotten all about glasses and diopter corrections—in fact my eyes had changed to the point that for distant vision, it didn’t really matter whether or not I was wearing my trifocals. So, not to be burdened with messing around with my glasses, I just kept them on. I had really forgotten all about that correction lens. My two lenses are 35 and 90, and I use the 35 about 99% of the time. So, I just didn’t let the hard-to-see-sll-at-once 35mm frame lines not bother me. Most of the time, I’m doing some cropping on all sides anyway. If, when taking the picture, one of the four sides is critical, I just position my eye so that I can easily see the relevant frame line.

Hope this helps.
