Ted,

You¹re living in the past. Wedding vows don¹t mean a damned thing. In the
USA, 50% of marriages end in divorce within the first 5 years. Because the
couple were stupid enough to invite the government into their
relationship, they have to pay lawyers and court fees for Œpermission¹ to
split up.

We have Œno fault¹ divorce now, the courts NEVER deny a couple permission
to divorce anymore, so I see no reason to involve them. In the past, you
could only divorce for a good reason, and those reasons were codified in
the law. Domestic violence, adultery, alcohol or drug addiction, and
abandonment were pretty much the only valid reasons judges would grant a
divorce. Not anymore; one of the people just has to be Œbored¹ or wants
someone else, etc.
