A few months ago I bought myself a 1953-vintage collapsible 50mm Summicron. I have a 50mm Summilux from the late 1960s or early 1970s, and I have owned more modern Leica 50mm in the past. I have to say that at least at this focal length, the lens designers back in the day certainly knew what they were doing. I love my two old lenses.

Cheers,
Nathan

Jim Shulman took pity on me and brought his 1990’s vintage Summilux over and I did a side by side. I discovered that the colors rendition is different, the Serenar is redder/majentier and of course the Summilux focuses more closely and it seems to have slightly more resolving power, or I just focused not as accurately with one. The bokeh is different but not so different that I care too much.
