The disturbing element of these shifts toward heavy handed bias
along with the ever larger monopoly ownership of the global media

Rests in the fact that 

We DID have a great many very fine newspapers, magazines, radio and TV
as well as fairly honorable editors, publishers, journalists and photojournalists
over the past 5-8 decades

And now we don't.
