Very surprising, and not my experience as a traveller/shooter
I was out shooting last night with a 35mm (50mm FF eq.) and missed my now sold 24-120 on a D700.
Resolution i.e. l/mm is one (tiny) part of a photo, angle, depth of field and perspective matter to, me much more.
