One might also say don't bother with them at all.
Enclosing a URL in angle brackets will enable URLs which spill over line
boundaries to remain clickable. Reference:
<http://www.w3.org/Addressing/URL/5.1_Wrappers.html>
This eliminates the trouble of making a tiny URL. Perhaps it's just a
personal preference, but I find it easier to type the angle brackets.
