Beautiful, Adam!

The weather here in Alicante is not that warm, at least not at night when it drops down into the 40s on your F scale; but during the day it is nice and sunny and in the 60s, so overall pleasant. Obviously, no chance of snow of any kind. To this transplanted northerner it therefore does not feel Christmassy until it gets dark and the lights and decorations are on.

As for food, in this part of Spain people eat more or less the same as the rest of the year—lots of seafood etc.—but just more of it. There are no real special “Christmas foods” the way you have elsewhere, such as Glühwein in Germany, duck in Denmark etc. The closest we have is turrón, an almond-based sweet, but even that is eaten year-round in Alicante (although not elsewhere in Spain).

What we lack in special foods we make up with free time, since many offices (including the one where I work) close between Christmas and New Year. Since January 6 is also a public holiday here, I will not be going back to work until the 7th.

Cheers,
Nathan
