I selected this camera because I thought it would work wonderfully on my
Leica lenses. I should have read more online about its compatibility.
Works fine with longer lenses, but as I am a WA shooter, the results with
my Leica M WA lenses are a bit lacking, especially in edge sharpness. Yup,
should have read the stories of woe from other users.
I had good results over the weekend shooting the Nocti with the A7. I
especially liked the OOF areas, which is what the Nocti is all about.
Today I received my Nikon F Lens to Sony (NEX) adapter.. I got a spurt of
good feelings from the combination of older ( non-AF) long Nikon lenses and
the Sony.
But I also have a D7100 that can take advantage of the long lenses WITH auto
diaphragm operation, a more pleasant way to work but more difficult to
critically focus, and of course, there is the opportunity to use AF with
some of my lenses. You may remember my story about difficulty critically
EVF focusing at smaller f-Stops ( F8-16). Same is true for MF on ( low
contrast) DSLR focusing screens.
I did get a kick out of EVF focusing my 400mm F5.6 lens on a fence about 100
yards away wide open. The fence sits about 2 feet from a block wall. I
could watch the focus snap in and out of the chain link itself.. the wall
was easy to watch snap into focus in a different plane....
I own no native Sony lenses, and do not really wish to buy into another lens
system past the Nikon and Leica I now have.
I am not so sure this A7 has a place in my life..without the native lenses,
but I do dearly love the EVF...
