Your legal rights are completely independent of whether or not you put a copyright statement or watermarks on the photos. If you post the photo on the web, by default you own the copyright unless you explicitly choose Creative Commons or some other non-traditional licensing. There is no requirement to register the copyright either, which is makes this right different from other IP rights such as trademarks or patents. However, if you want to bring legal action against an infringer, then the copyright must be registered (this applies to the US, may be different in other jurisdictions).
