Christmas is coming. That's when your extended brood gets pop/grandpop an
account at Uber, Lyft or a cab service of choice, and tells the venerable
one to carry on as before. A good friend of mine did that with his
dad--gave him an envelope full of cash, and told him to spend it on cabs.
When the envelope got thin, he replenished it. My friend realized that
the taxi bucks were far less than a wrongful death lawsuit payment.
Best,
Jim (who's off running parent errands about two or three times a week,
gladly.)

Hi Jim,
Champion idea! My son Ted calls me every evening between 5 and 6.30 to
enquire how my day was. He's done that every single day since his mother
past away 3 years ago! "Do I need a lift to the store for groceries or
whatever.?" "How was your day? Did you do your walk? Did you do some
exercising? How are you feeling?"" Usually a quick chat making sure Dad is
OK. :-)
As far as the driving and getting rid of the car? He was all for it when I
offered I should quit! He immediately responded with "Don't worry about
going anyplace!" So far we've worked our way around all situations and the
help of friends.
cheers,
ted
