[Leica] Alternative to the Monochrom

Mark, not quite. All "color" sensors, with the exception of the
Foveon/Sigma, are actually B&W sensor with a color filter array. So the
filter is still just one layer. The problem is that every 4 pixels are
covered by RGGB layer (double green for every red and blue) and the
firmware takes the best GUESS what a color is, if it is not the one
corresponding to the filter color at that pixel.
A pure B&W sensor like the Monochrom, does not have that Bayer pattern
filter, and thus effective has higher resolution than the equivalent sensor
with the filter.
