Hi Nathan,
I don't know whether the people who buy the limited edition 60th Anniversary M will use their camera on a very regular basis but I would be surprised if they never used it at all... I think you are dead wrong about the M-A - as far as I can tell it is £3100 in the UK versus £3600 for the MP or M7 - if, as they say, the only difference is removing the battery/exposure electronics then I think it will appeal to many people. I imagine most people considering a film Leica may already have a light meter or be comfortable assessing exposure for themselves and would quite like to have something 'cheaper' and purely mechanical - the more digital the world the greater the joy [for some people] there is in the traditional [I'll defend vinyl over CD or mp3 or even 'High Res' audio any time]. I know that when I use film [and i admit the Monochrom has really taken over for me] it is the M4 I reach for before the M6

And Leica knows it, too, which is obvious from their marketing. This is in contrast to, say, the S line, which, while expensive, is clearly aimed at people who will actually USE the equipment.

>> Why do you say that? It is very demeaning! I saved and saved for a year to buy a Monochrom which is a camera priced at the sort of level you dismiss as being for collectors. You don't know people's circumstances... if I didn't have a M4 and M6 I would be saving to buy the M-A and when I bought it I would be taking photographs with it.

>> I wish Leica were cheaper [when I bought my M6 in the mid 90s they were - comparatively cheaper] but the price they charge is the price they need to and not go into bankruptcy as they almost did after 2000.

>> So criticise the price yes , their marketing, that they still manufacture in Europe and aim for a level of performance above that of Fuji/Sony [though clearly they are inspiring them...] but don't keep making insulting comments about the people who buy their cameras [at least not till you have got to know them and feel you know enough about them to tell the list that I - or whoever - only buy these things to put on a shelf].
