Steve,
On standard color capable digital sensors using RAW, you are correct.
The MM doesn't have the color array so it is only reproducing luminance 
values recorded at the pixel level. It doesn't care what color things 
are, only what the intensity of the light that hits the sensor is.
So the filters that were used with b&w film respond (mostly) the same 
way on the MM.
So, red will really darken blue sky, green with lighten foliage, etc.
