The lighting is a result of her makeup responding inappropriately to the lighting, analogous to blacklight. As far as lens adapters I am all over the map. I have a fondness for the Voightlander close focus adapters when using Leica lenses as getting closer than about a meter is sometimes helpful. Otherwise I tend to buy midline adapters as they are available at decent prices; I tend to check the used sights fairly frequently for various odds and ends. In the US I find Blue Moon Camera in Oregon to have a good stock of older lenses at reasonable prices and graded fairly. Technique varies all over. Sometimes you just talk to someone and take their image, mostly asking first. In the tourist district I'm just doing a Friedlander, look, take, maybe take again or move on. Maybe 20% of the time I manage to become Llouis and am invisible: that is being aware of people that are so focused on something else that they lose all peripheral vision. Interestingly, I find women to have far more awareness of the other looking their way and checking the threat level.
