It HAS to be thicker than a non-IBIS sensor. Remember the fuss made when Leica added some thickness (4mm / 0.156"? or a bit over 1/8 inch) to the M240? Can you imagine a repeat of all of that fuss "just" to gain IBIS? Sometimes you just have to ignore your target market and move forward with better technology.... ( Digital Imaging, RF) .. they will eventually appreciate it.... when the results (pictures) are better! Peter Karbe does a very nice explanation of how the MTF of a lens is related to the sensor resolution, in layman's terms.
