Adam,
In my mind you're dealing with two completely different ideas here:
1) The subjective result of an image under controlled conditions, which will 
yield whatever people see with subjective eyes in a bewildering number of 
final settings.
And 2) an interesting laboratory measurement which will yield objective 
results.

Both results should be very interesting. I tell my clients to use their own 
equipment (iPhone, Droid, whatever) and save money paying for a Pro, unless 
they're faced with 1) lighting issues (low/weird light), 2) distance 
requirements (need to telephoto or perhaps micro) and 3) audio. And there is 
always a fourth: experience getting the image. A Pro will, and you may or 
may not.

Just my two cents.

With the release of the iPhone 13 with its macro capability I wondered how 
it might compare with mirrorless cameras using macro lenses.

But I?m a bit stuck trying to figure out a methodology that might be useful.

I?m thinking that I?ll only use JPG files produced by the cameras? standard 
settings. Use lights for consistency. Use the best ISO for the camera. Try 
to frame the images the same.

Other ideas? 

I?ll be using:

Sony A7Riii (90mm macro)
Fujifilm X-T3 (80mm macro)
Leica SL2-S (using the 100mm APO R lens) iPhone 13 pro max

I could, I suppose, go the RAW route. I?d process in Capture One.

Thoughts? This is sort of a ?wild hare? idea but would be fun.

I?d use a selection of small flowers in several colors.

Thanks for sharing any ideas - or just telling me this is a really bad idea.
