I'm using an Epson 7800 and 9800 with B&W inks in them now.  See

Those big old Epson workshorses just keep going.

I don't know what the best small desktop is now.  Any Epson that has empty,
refillable cartridges available can be used.  The old 1400 was a favorite,
but I'm not sure what the replacement for that might be.

If there is an older model with some clogged nozzles,

an amazing cleaner that might just revive it.
