There is a proposal to to build a giant totally out of character development of tower blocks which will ruin the character of our old village which is mainly 19th century. The highest of the eight blocks will be nine storeys which is monstrous in comparison with all of the buildings here. However, what irks me most, is the sewage. I'm chairman of our local residents group so have been up to my eyes in the proverbial as we fight this thing. With an additional 1,000 plus people generating 158,500 kilos of solid sewage, in addition to the liquid stuff which will have to be coped with by an already saturated, and under pressure, sewage system, it will increase the overflows that South County Dublin bathers (like me!) have to endure frequently. The existing attenuation tank at the West Pier in Dun Laoghaire regularly overflows after heavy rain, and the presence of fecal ?brown outs? prohibit safe bathing at Seapoint?s Blue Flag beach. Should this catastrophe happen, we will see a return to the 1970s, where it was impossible to bathe safely. This Blue Flag beach and bathing area attracts adults and children from all over South and West Co. Dublin and also is, with the historic Martello tower, a tourist focus. Further beach closures and swimming bans will lead to widespread outrage across Dublin. With the longer survival of CoVid in water, I'm not going to swim during the winter this year. Douglas - all ready to be grossly outraged :-) On 12/10/2020 15:25, Howard L Ritter Jr via LUG wrote: > I?m still cringing at the appearance of ?sewage outlet? in the same > caption with ?kite surfing at? and ?close to swimming area"? > > ?howard > >> On Oct 12, 2020, at 10:13 AM, Jim Nichols<jhnichols at lighttube.net> >> wrote: >> >> That's an impressive shot, Douglas. >> >> On 10/12/20 8:25 AM, Douglas Barry wrote: >>> I've been up to my eyes fighting a local planning aberration - hence my >>> lacklustre recent photography - but had to take my camera to do >>> something in relation to the appeal. >>> >>> Because of a slight access difficulty, I decided to use one of my Pentax >>> lens collection - the M series 2.8/120 on a Fotodiox adaptor.
