The careful use of light that you saw makes a wonderful image.

As to the virus,  it will be with us much like the flu or AIDS.  Reasonable
measures will keep most safe and destroy some.   It is hubris for modern
humans to believe that we master all.  Whether it is another Krakatoa
blotting out the sun, or a disease vector that has no innate immunity in
humans or important food supplies black swans will continue to create havoc.
