We used large format for two primary reasons, perspective control and better quality based on film stocks available. Contact printed images is also a factor. Digital sensors have changed that equation quite a bit. While the medium firms sensors do improve image quality over full frame the difference is not even close to what could be done with film. Meaning a well done 6x7 image was almost always better in every way than 35mm image on film. What I am suggesting is that a 40+ pixel sensor with a minimum of 14 bit output can produce truly amazing image quality even on a sub 24x36 sensor. Software is the driving force in image presentation today in the same light as tour de force darkroom skills were in the past. Now, the appeals of large format are perspective control, lenses of unique image quality, and the process of using the camera forcing a much different work flow. Just my 0.02 as I browse used Technica cameras.
