I think in the year 2525 a .psd has just a much change of being recogntized
that a .tif.
How many trillions of .psd photoshop files are out there now?
Tiffs are clunky and huge and have a slew of obsure options you can click on
whenever you make one to screw the whole thing up..
Real men save to .psd. then quickly make a .jpg out of it. Then eat a tuna
and cheese sandwich on rye.

I would not worry about Adobe transitioning completely to the cloud.
With
8K video there is no way that cloud based storage will be ideal. Also,
if
you transition to the subscription based program the cost is similar to
upgrading every several years to maintain the new features(from my last
interview I believe that color control is going to get much better).
Now,
if you are concerned about storing your completed images save them as
TIFFS
on your hard drive. You will always have your DNG's on the hard drive
but
if your discontinue the subscription then the work will be lost probably
but not the underlying image. Or, use Brian's approach which is to print
out the image on archival paper.

I find that the capability of the latest version of LR is incredible and
I
rarely find myself in PS. Focus stacking and some blending modes are the
exception. A reality of the digital age is that if you don't upgrade you
will find yourself trapped in an older operating system and eventually
trying to support an older computer that will not be repairable in the
future. My wife found her self in this position professionally when a
program favored(required) by the production side of her business would
only
work on Windows 95. She kept three computers on standby as eventually
all
good machines die and 95 isn't supported by anybody anymore.
