I've been using PS every day of my professional life since 1994. In the early days, I used it simply because it was the only tool available to help me preserve images of rare and delicate items in my job at the Northwestern State University Cammie G. Henry Research Center. I've tried many other options, and none have the robust power to do almost anything I need to do with so little trouble. I use maybe a tenth of the utility of the software, but I know how to do many other things that I don't need to do. I can say this, the program never lets me down. Spotting and healing are just two attributes that cannot be found in such elegance on any other kind of imaging software. Now, why do I rent? because it is relatively seamless to get upgrades. Most times I don't even know it is happening. I'm happy to support the company that has helped me put two boys through college, and keep food on my table as well. It is also responsible for me being able to present Friday Flowers to you for these sixteen, (I think) years.
