My option for such occasions is a fireplace with gas logs, powered by the local underground natural gas distribution system. My wife and I insisted on this option after living through an ice storm at the end of January 1951 at which time fallen, ice covered, branches caused a week-long power outage in Mississippi and Tennessee.? We had been married for a week, and were living in temporary college housing that had been provided for returning veterans from WWII.? Fortunately, we had a kerosene heater and a gasoline cook stove in the converted trailer.
