When I talk to higher up airforce planners I hear lots of reasons for A10 retirements: airframes worn out, designed for hordes of tanks coming through the Fulda gap not a problem. Drones taking the place is another one. What none of them address is low level conflicts and the need to remove hardened targets or vehicles. The A10 does a very credible job of destroying suicide car attacks like we saw in the rundown of ISIS in Iraq. Anyway, a well done series of a time not likely to be repeated.
