Odd, it is usually still near the top of tests if it is included.  They have updated it in the S 120/2.5 macro (96mm equivalent) which by all accounts is the most outstanding lens in the S range (I use it ~80% of the time).....

I think it?s thought of as 2 or 3 or 4 generations ago; whole ?classes? of glass ago. That?s just too long a time to compete with all that?s gone down in optics I think.
I think if Leica comes out now with a 100 macro it?s going to be not in the same league as Nikon/Canon the price will reflect that. But not one them make 31 years ago. Nostalgia just doesn?t fit in there.

    Based on looking at the specs it seem some R glass are a clear step up from old  back then Nikon or Canon glass. 
    But much of them even back then were not any kind of special inspiration.
