I don't have a stacker for my Nikon scanner, so running them with the 
digital camera and macro is some faster than scanning. 

My guess is the answer lies in the fact that Nikon stopped making film 
scanners, and there are few other quality alternatives.  I'm sure if the 
quality and speed were there, Sony would resurrect the Minolta line too.

I find the quality extremely high with the Sony A7r2, 90mm macro on a copy 
stand, with 42 megapixels on a full frame. certainly high enough for our 
print clients at the Cammie G. Henry Research Center.  Of course, I'm rarely 
doing 35mm; more likely medium and large format bw negs.

I haven't hooked it up while doing copy stand work, but my Sony can play 
live view viewfinder  through my iPad, so I could use it to speed things up, 
and not have to use the live view on the back of the camera. 

My vote, given what I do with it, goes to  copystand.   I'm probably going 
to get an led light table to make the setup a little easier.
