He's still kicking!

I switched to the digest version of LUG which means I do miss some
topics of interest. For a while my eyesight was iffy, making
photography challenging but the cataract surgery has helped.

I was in Greece last month for my good friend's daughter's wedding, and
I did pack the M9 and M8. Greece experienced a serious heatwave while
we were there, so I wasn't out and about as much with the gear as I
would have otherwise been.

All the M9 images were taken with the Noctilux which is still my go-to
lens. I used to favor a 5-6ft distance where the Noctilux's optical
idiosyncrasies were in full evidence--but no one in my family lets me
get that close anymore. A Heliopan 8x ND allows f1.0 on even bright days.

The M8 pictures were all taken with 21 Lux and Heliopan Series 8
Infrared RG 715 (88A) Filter--I'm still fascinated by the novelty of IR
and the idea of exploiting the M8's design limitation as a virtue. Not
a cloud in the Aegean or Ionian sky, which is a pity because clouds
always make IR images pop. The images are what you'd imagine ancient
aliens might have left behind on the planet Mars.

I confess the iPhone has reached a level of quality where I do use it to
excess. (Forgive some of the over-processed images--the manipulations
looked good on the iPhone!) I have no explanation for why I've
gravitated to the square format for iPhone images except perhaps that I
miss using the Rollei and Hasselblad.
