It is very similar to Spanish Roman catholic traditions - Luis & I have discussed this many times before! This is actually quite small, being a felicitation of the god Vishnu, not very popular in South India. A similar one for the god Shiva at Kapaleshwara Temple in Chennai routinely sees 500k to 750k people on the roads. I avoid it totally, it is a strain to even walk in that area! For another similar tradition, look at this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dahi_Handi Cheers Jayanand On Sun, Jul 9, 2017 at 5:56 PM, RicCarter <ric at cartersxrd.net> wrote: > wonderful experience > > thanks > > ric > > > > On Jul 6, 2017, at 12:54 PM, Jayanand Govindaraj <jayanand at gmail.com> > wrote: > > > > This week heralds a major annual festival, Shri Narasimha Swami > > Bhrahmotsavam at the 8th century Sri Parthasarathy Swamy Temple, which I > > have been photographing for years.
