Almost all of the professional photographers I know have had to take
another job to make ends meet. I would never advise anybody to go into
photography as a career these days. Unfortunately, the best newspaper
journalists I know have also had to find new careers. The Charlotte
Observer used to have wonderful photographers and journalists. They've let
them all go. The paper really suffers as a result. Nobody proofreads
anything and the photos are made by reporters with cell phones.
