In summer it was a trickle through a sandy bed with sunbathers in winter it could flood up to 1km wide (according to my odometer crossing it on the raised road after the bridge at Mornay-sur-Allier). I read it is the only big river left in France without flow control. The confluence of the Allier and Loire is about 15km north. Locals consider the Loire to really be a tributary to the Allier rather than the way it is actually labelled, and spending time at the confluence would confirm that pov, the Loire flow is much less volume than that of the Allier, but from there to the sea it is still called the Loire. cheers, Frank D. > On 19 Feb 2017, at 18:33, John McMaster <john at mcmaster.fr> wrote: > > We are well above it in the old part of the village, several tens of > metres higher :-) As I said, this is the second time that > Bize-Minervois has been flooded this year > http://www.lindependant.fr/2017/01/28/a-bize-minervois-quarante-habita > tions-ont-pris-l-eau-dans-la-nuit,2288527.php > > We stayed in Bize for a few months when we first arrived so know it quite > well, this is what the river looks like in summer... > http://johnmcmaster.com/Bize/content/L3005555_large.html > > john > > > -----Original Message----- > > That's pretty serious flooding, John.
