If you don't set any user profiles, then you will not take a chance of entering the snapshot mode. (That's why so few of us have any experience with the mode.) I don't have my M9 nearby, but from what I read, it seems you may still have the option to shoot DNG with Snapshot mode. Leica M9 brochure: "In snapshot mode, the M9 automatically sets as many settings as possible, thus providing a valuable aid to spontaneous and discreet photography."
