For the previous year I did make the eBook option available. It's not an
option that appealed to Jim who of course was editor for so many years.
As the base cost from Blurb was lower, I added a larger donation to (Jim's)
charity (USD10 vs. USD5 for the print ones). So the total price was about
USD 15 from memory. We sold about 13 eBooks as well as the print versions.
Whether those were additional or instead of sales I couldn't say. Our total
donations (all of the net profit of course) for that year were ~USD350. I
suspect but don't know that the sales have reduced over the years since Jim
first started this?

Also from my experience there is no interest in anyone purchasing the book
if they weren't a contributor and no sales at all after the initial 4
weeks. Reacting to that last I later made the entire book available in
preview so everyone involved but who never planned to buy any version can
now see the content. If you do that at any point, you definitely would not
sell any more copies in any form, in my opinion.

My two cents is that like Gerry I think that Blurb's prices make the book
too expensive for many. Keeping in mind that the author's have only ever
added that small markup for charity. Personally I have bought quite a few
individual books by marvellous LUG photographers (Ted, Tina, Lluis, Nathan
and more for example). I always send in my two images but just buy the hard
copy occasionally over the years.

>From Richard's comments, there were only about ~27 people who actually
bought last years (a couple of people like Ted actually buy extra copies as
gifts).

So spare some sympathy for Richard or any future editor when you consider
how much work goes into the book for a buyers list of 27 or so (from ~70
contributors (not all actually LUG members historically), from how many
thousand LUG members? Or if the primary aim is to gather the charity funds,
ask everyone if they would donate say $5 if they don't plan to purchase any
Yearbook?

I submitted the ebook to Blurb in Jan. The status said "processing", but it
appears that it is stuck there? :-/

I won't have a chance to look at it until later. Tax time and other
necessary, must do, or otherwise evil things...
