If there is a difference, I suspect it might be due to Leica using a different filter over the sensor. I would not be surprised of the M9 glass issue was related to it being thinner than all the others use. There now seems to be a replacement glass that is more durable. I would like to see a comparison test of an M9 before and after the glass change. When I get my M9 back from Leica I'll see if I can do that. I think the filter over the sensor/obtuse light angle problem has not yet been totally solved. Combine the possibility of changes on this front with the apparent practice of some lens makers to design the lens to offset the sensor cover stack effects, and it just might put a variable into the formula that makes investment in an expensive lens set less attractive. Getting rid of that filter has now replaced my previous desire to get rid of the mirror in SLRs.
