I have had a Leitz-Wetzlar Elmarit-R 28/2.8, SN2920808, that I bought to try on the E-1. The E-1 is at least 12yrs old, so the viewfinder is good, but not magic. With the 28mm, I always ended up zone focusing using the DoF scale. I tried it again today, indoors with room lighting, and was not pleased with the result. Perhaps with the SL finder, it might find its place. On the other hand, some time ago I bought a Leitz-Canada Summicron-R 50/2.0, SN2890592 to use on the E-1, and, to my mind, it is easy to focus and produces fine images. It is far from the latest APO glass, but, as a day to day all purpose lens, it suits me fine. It also focuses down to 20 inches. Here is an image I shot today, hand-held, by room light, using it on the E-1. Aside from RAW to JPG conversion, and resizing, I did no post processing. http://www.gallery.leica-users.org/v/OldNick/Bird+416.tif.html E-1 and Leica Summicron-R 50/2, ISO 200, 1/30 at f/2, hand held.
