For those who have not seen the site, lens rentals tests 10 samples of a lens and presents MTF curves showing the performance averaged over 10 samples with a figure of merit representing sample to sample deviation. As a D800E/24-70 G owner, I have been looking forward to the new VR version of this lens, so their latest post was of great interest. See: http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2015/10/nikon-24-70mm-f2-8-ed-af-s-vr-sharpness-optical-bench-testing Looking at the data, Nikon optical designers have made an unusual optic . The VR 24-70 sacrifices a fair bit of center and mid-field sharpness at the shorter focal lengths in order to retain better edge sharpness. It will be interesting to see how this characteristic manifests itself in images taken with high MP sensors. Akhil
